Liz Christiansen

AFFILIATE ARTIST

Liz Christiansen is a Brisbane-based multidisciplinary artist and designer whose creative practice spans surface pattern design, collage, painting, illustration, hand lettering, and digital media.

With a love for colour, contrast and textures, her art brings together diverse influences to create playful, expressive compositions.

With over 25 years of experience in graphic design, Liz’s creative voice has been shaped by her background in advertising, design, branding and typography. She holds a Bachelor of Design Studies from the Queensland College of Art and is the founder and creative director of Lula Creative, a boutique design studio now in its17th year.

In recent years, Liz has returned to her roots in hands-on creativity, building her personal art practice as a way to reconnect with the joy and freedom of making.

A self-proclaimed maximalist and bowerbird, she’s currently drawn to neon tones, layered elements and themes of contrast – blending shapes, feminine energy, and movement.

When not in the studio, Liz is likely spending time with her three kids, her much-loved pets or in the garden. She is a big fan of books, coffee, olives, music, vintage shopping and ALL the plants! As a lifetime student, Liz is always curious and learning something new, and is passionate about making jewellery, taking naps, collecting for her collage practice, roller skating and is currently obsessed with capybaras.

Liz’s artwork is a joyful exploration inspired by abstract shapes, and natural and urban environments.

With a background in design and a love for weaving together the unexpected, Liz brings together bold forms and soft details – her work blends graphic composition and organic elements to create expressive pieces full of energy and heart.

After many years designing for clients and working in digital design, Liz returned to making art for herself – rediscovering her creative spark through collage and painting. What began as a way to loosen up creatively became a central part of her practice. She now works across mixed media, combining hand-painted papers, vintage ephemera, gelli printing, acrylics, inks, and digital tools.

Drawing on her love of retro aesthetics, maximalist design, and visual storytelling, Liz’s style is bold and eclectic – like a kaleidoscope of colour, pattern, and shape. She’s especially drawn to exploring the spaces between elements: positive and negative space, soft and strong, movement and stillness. Collage continues to be a grounding, intuitive process for Liz — one that lets her experiment freely and embrace imperfection. She is currently growing an artwork and surface pattern design portfolio for art licensing, and collaborations across fashion, homewares, stationery and beyond.
