JO KAISER
AFFILIATE ARTIST
My artwork is drawn from me personally and my surroundings. I do not have a plan or idea in mind. I mark the canvas and go from there.
As I paint, my palette changes just as I do. I love the fear of the blank canvas, not knowing what is going to come about.
This is truly exciting for me.
When I paint, music is a priority for me to get into my space.
My paintings usually have 6-8 layers per piece and can dramatically change from start to finish. Usually, I work on 2 or 3 pieces at once and move between them as the layers of oil and linseed dry. I let them cook, review and add or subtract markings. I love to blend colours and feel totally engrossed when I do focus in that area of my work.
Mixed media and use of hand stitching and oil sticks are also mediums I like to play with. My paintings usually take between 2-3 months each to complete.
Never in a rush I like to allow the artwork to breathe, and I know when it is done.
To me it is not about rushing the painting to ‘get done’ it is about the process and expression that comes about through patience and pure love.

As an abstract expressionism artist, my paintings and artwork are based purely on emotion, they are honest and personal.
I started expressing myself creatively as a young girl after being inspired by my primary school art teacher. She opened my eyes to the beauty and intrigue of colour, simple things and viewing life from all angles. Later in life this same art teacher, Liz Tanke, mentored and encouraged me to continue my journey of art.
I live in the Northern Rivers, New South Wales with my husband and fur babies. I love life here and am so blessed to be in these beautiful natural surroundings where I draw my inspiration from.
Working from my studio; painting daily and creating I also hold creative expression-based workshops, and I am currently studying to be an art therapy practitioner.
Being an artist has been a natural progression for me. It allows me to express all that is within. It is part of my life journey, and now having others see something in my art that they resonate with is truly a gift.
Art is true for me, and I couldn’t imagine my life without it or creating.
When I paint, I feel whole.
