Amanda Hellyer
Raised in the wide-open country of south-west Queensland, my connection to landscape began with vast horizons, distant mountain ranges and the quiet presence of place. Those early experiences continue to shape my practice, where painting becomes a way of returning to and reimagining remembered landscapes.
Daily walks and bush wanderings are central to my creative process. Rather than depicting a specific location, my paintings emerge from memory, sensation and the emotional imprint of being immersed in nature. Through expressive brushwork, layered marks and vibrant colour, I seek to capture the movement, energy and changing rhythms of the landscape.
At the heart of my work is an exploration of our relationship with the natural world. I see landscape as a place of reflection, healing and renewal, reminding us that we are part of something far greater than ourselves. Time spent in nature encourages us to slow down, be present and reconnect with both the environment and ourselves.
My paintings invite viewers to pause, wander and experience a sense of awe, stillness and resilience. They celebrate the restorative power of the Australian landscape while encouraging a deeper appreciation of the places that sustain, inspire and deserve our care.
