Amy Ruth
My mum tells me that I was practically born with a pencil in my hand.
My passion for drawing and art led me to a professional career in urban design and landscape architecture—but as I progressed in my career, the pencil was traded in for a computer. I found myself missing the freedom and creativity of making art by hand.
So in early 2024, I picked up a paintbrush and a pen again and started Vibrant Places Art - a return to the joyful, imaginative practice that first sparked my love of place and design.
Amy was a finalist in the Revival Emerging Art Prize 2025 and 2026, received highly commended at the Studio on Brunswick Independent Visions Art Prize in 2026, and winner of Pine Rivers Show Non-Traditional Art winner in 2024.

“ My paintings are vibrant, bold, and eye-catching. I love using bright colours that evoke delight and energy. I paint imaginative urban environments, lush gardens, layered landscapes, and the wild beauty of mountains and subtropical flora. My work often features character homes and architectural forms that blend the built and natural world.
With my background in landscape architecture and urban design, my passion for placemaking continues to shape how I see the world - and how I paint it. I aim to create a vivid and aspirational “sense of place,” where colour, memory, and environment converge in harmony.
Most of my inspiration comes from my life in South-East Queensland, where suburban streetscapes, native plants, and big skies provide endless creative fuel.”
