Fi Cameron

Fi Cameron is a Brisbane-based multidisciplinary artist working across 2D, 3D, experiential and digital forms. Fi holds a Bachelor of Visual Arts (QUT, 1993) and a Diploma of Multimedia (2002). Working intuitively with found and repurposed materials, printmaking, collage and assemblage, Fi makes playful, process-driven work shaped by the incidental patterns of the built environment and the natural world. Fi has created interactive, experiential works, including an Arts Queensland Art+Place multisensory installation and residency at Narbethong Special School for children with vision impairment and other disabilities. After a long parallel career in digital design and communications, Fi is now prioritising her studio practice through Fuzzyfocus.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Spontaneous. Raw. Curious.

“I make art by doing: gathering, sorting, printing, stamping, painting, drawing, cutting, tearing, arranging, gluing and assembling. I work fast and trust my senses, letting chance help shape each composition. I’m drawn to the fuzzy edges — the incidental, the overlooked, the cast-off — in human habitation and spontaneous patterning in nature. I move between 2D, 3D and digital, revealing stories along the way. Found objects become sculptural heroes, then mark-maker for layered prints, which in turn are cut up and collaged into a new form. The visual language is ambiguous yet familiar, inviting you as the viewer to discover your own stories, connecting us through a shared experience.”
